Translation of Optogenetics
The Academy of the Else Kröner Fresenius Center for Optogenetic Therapies is aimed at excellent and committed young scientists who have a strong interest in translating basic research findings into therapeutic applications and transferring them to industry. The goal of the EKFZ Academy is to train a new generation of scientists who possess the necessary qualifications to translate optogenetic research into clinical application. By addressing regulatory, legal, and economic issues of translation, the Academy offers unique opportunities for interdisciplinary training of Master’s, PhD, and MD students, as well as postdoctoral researchers and research-oriented resident physicians. The tailored continuing education program includes courses on patent and cooperation law, Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Clinical Practice (GCP), approval procedures, medical statistics, drug development, and market access. Furthermore, Academy members have the opportunity to engage in professional exchanges with THE Ethics Committee of the University Medical Center Göttingen as well as representatives from the PEI and BfArM, and to expand their network through interaction with start-ups and established companies. The training concept of the EKFZ Academy supports students and young scientists on their career path to becoming translational scientists and complements the existing training programs at the Göttingen Campus.
